क्यों और कब मनाई जाती है होली : होली का त्योहार फाल्गुन की पूर्णिमा वाले दिन मनाया जाता है। इसका संक्षिप्त में वर्णन यह है कि, एक राक्षस राजा हिरण्यकशिपु था। उसे अपने बल का घमंड हो गया था।
उसने ऐलान किया कि सारे लोग उसकी उसे ही परमात्मा के तौर पर पूजे। तो सब लोग उसकी पूजा करने लग गए।
पर उसका पुत्र प्रहलाद ने उसका विरोध किया। जो कि हिरण्यकशिपु को बिल्कुल भी पसंद नहीं आया। तो उसने प्रहलाद भक्त को मारने का विचार किया पर वह खुद ही मर गया।
मुख्य बात यह है कि प्रहलाद की बुआ होलिका ने अपनी गोद में उसे बिठा कर मारने का प्रयत्न किया था। प्रहलाद भक्त तो परमात्मा का नाम जपते जपते बच गया।
परंतु होलीका आग में भसम हो गई। लोग होलिका के मरने की खुशी में उसके नाम पर होली का त्योहार मनाते हैं।
होली कैसे मनाई जाती है : चार-पांच दिन पहले ही लोग रंगों से होली खेलना शुरू कर देते हैं। लाल, गुलाबी, हरा, पीला, कई रंग एक दूसरे के मुंह पर लगाए जाते हैं।
होली की लाभ और हानियां : होली के त्यौहार वाले दिन लोग मेल मिलाप बढ़ाते हैं। एक दूसरे को रंग लगाते हैं
कुछ लोग तो, रंग और गुलाल से होली खेलते हैं। परंतु कुछ लोग गंदे कीचड़ से होली खेलने लग जाते हैं। वह एक दूसरे पर कीचड़ फेंकते हैं। और रंग की जगह है काले रंग का इस्तेमाल करते हैं। यहां तक की कई लोग शराब आदि का नशा करके जुआ इत्यादि खेलते हैं।
इस पागलपन में कई बार इस होली के पावन त्योहार पर मौत भी हो जाती है। क्योंकि शराब पीने के बाद आदमी अपने होश खो बैठता है।
इस पवित्र त्यौहार वाले दिन शराब पीना, जुआ खेलना इस त्यौहार के महत्व को कम कर देते हैं। तो हमें इन सब से दूर रहना चाहिए। और मिलजुलकर इस खुशी के त्यौहार को मनाना चाहिए।
